Tuesdays at the Triangle, the 14-week performance series, produced by the Polish Triangle Coalition (PTC), kicks off its 5th season Tues., May 23, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Located in the triangle formed by Milwaukee, Division and Ashland, the season ends on Aug. 29 (note: no July 4 performance).

Taste of Chicago, Jazz Fest and House of Blues are but a few of the venues where some of this summer's performers can be seen in large spaces. But, Tuesdays at the Triangle makes it possible for everyone to enjoy their talents in an intimate space, free of charge.

This year's lineup continues to intertwine music, performance, poetry and dance by professionals and local not-for-profit groups. "We are very pleased that sponsors have made it possible to provide stipends to most of our performers this year," says Kapra Fleming, PTC's Treasurer. "The sponsors are SSA #33, Activate! Chicago, Podhalanka Restaurant, Fletcher Jones Mercedes-Benz/Audi and 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins."

Opening Tuesdays at the Triangle 2017
First up, at the May 23 show from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., the NNM band and dance students return to delight the audience with their talents and enthusiasm.

Mexican folk music called Son Jarocho by Ida y Vuelta’s will take over the stage from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ida y Vuelta will pepper the Triangle with traditional “sones,” dating back over 300 years as well as their own arrangements and original tunes.

The sounds will be a fusion of African, Spanish and Indigenous music and poetry with instruments native to the Veracruz region. They include jaranas (8 string small guitars), requinto (lead 4 string guitar), leona (acoustic bass) and zapateado (percussive foot tapping) along with cajón (wood peruvian box) and quijada (donkey jaw).
