An attempt was made to set a cat on fire in the 2500 W. block of Superior, according to Molly Murray, Beat 1213, 12th district CAPS.

Under a homeowner's deck there is housing for several feral cats. At 3 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, the homeowner heard cats screech and then a thump. He went out on the deck and probably interrupted the offender(s)

The next day tracks were found in the snow to the alley. One of the cats was discovered soaked in kerosene with a noose/rope around its neck. Most of its whiskers are missing and it's paws burned from the kerosene.

What you can do

  • PLEASE be alert
  • Call 911 immediately on seeing anyone suspicious in your alleys or on the street
  • Let the police do their jobs by stopping to talk to anyone you feel does not belong
