David Ramos, President of the Smith Park Advisory Council and a member of the Polish Triangle Coalition, was honored by Chicago's City Council for 23 years of service on the Local School Councils for Ogden International School of Chicago and Lincoln Park High School as well as the Local School Council Advisory Board, LSCAB representing Network 6.

Throughout his more than two decades of service on the elected boards, Ramos served in various officer roles on the boards.

The LSCAB advises the CPS board on its new initiatives and policies that effect all 534 schools. During his campaign to serve on that board, he vowed to visit all the schools in the network.

"It was a great way to collaborate with the members and assist them with resources and guidance to better serve their schools," said Ramos, who took off from work, sometimes half days, to visit the members of the LSC and speak at their meetings.

His peers elected him to serve as an officer of the board and has been its secretary for the past 3 years.

His "tour of duty" came to an end in June when Ramos' youngest son Joshua graduated from Ogden High School. Illinois Code, required Ramos to step down from his positions since he no longer has a child in the system. His sons Nicholas and David Jr., "DJ," also attended and graduated from Ogden.

"I am deeply grateful to Alderman Brendan Reilly for recognizing my years of service to CPS families. I am truly honored and humbled to receive this prestigious resolution," said Ramos.

Brendan Reilly, 42nd Ward Alderman introduced the recognition resolution for the recognition to Chicago City Council.

Professionally, Ramos is the former homeland security director for Cook County and served over 24 years as a Chicago Policeman. He is presently the deputy director with the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC).
