The Local School Council (LSC) of East Village's LaSalle II school learned Monday morning, Jan.7, in an emergency meeting that principal Suzanne Velasquez-Sheehy will be leaving end of day Friday. Sheehy is resigning to start 5 new charter schools.

"She has been a rock star and we are sorry to lose her," said LSC Vice Chair Tom Tomek at the East Village Assn. (EVA) Monday night meeting.

"None of us has been through this process before, but we, the LLC, will be selecting the new principal," explained Tomek. "The administration, Sheehy and Vice Principal Bridget Malinowski, have some thoughts and recommendations and then it will be up to us to locate and  interview candidates then select the new principal."

Notified by email Friday afternoon of the Monday meeting, the 13-person council is Chaired by Jen Turner with Ronda Locke as Secretary.

Charter schools are a proven failure AND only benefit the investors and founders by lining their pockets. Fix the regular schools instead.
