Wicker Ice receives Blackhawk's donation for Season 2

Tommy Hawk rested in Wicker Park gym

WickerIce in Wicker Park has received a $2,725 donation from the Chicago Blackhawks as a result of other donations to their special day in Wicker Park February 27. This will help in the volunteer operated ice rink in its second year starting this December.

Through 1st Ward Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno, the Blackhawks turned the Wicker Park Field House into a hockey lovers dream. Current star Marcus Kruger and former Hawk, Bobby Hull, one of the greatest players of all time, were both in the gym talking to fans and signing autographs.

There were games for all to play as well as mascot Tommy Hawk to play with.

Rocio Varela, 1st Ward staffer, is credited with obtaining the vendors at the event and then working with Brian Howe, Manager of Event Marketing, Chicago Blackhawks, to match the vendor donations.

Some of the WickerIce volunteers seem to be having difficulty waiting until December and the new season, but they are looking for feedback on the first ice rink season. WickerIce has a survey that they would appreciate people interested in skating in the Park to take.

WickerIce is part of the Wicker Park Advisory Council.
