DCASE encourages participation in Chicago's Year of Public Art
In this the Year of Public Art, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) is sending out deadline reminders for the 50x50 initiative and the Public Art Youth Corps project.
The 50x50 initiative, which will provide up to $1 million for new public art projects was extended from March 10 to April 28. So artists be sure to submit your pieces. The selected Artists will work with DCASE, Aldermen and residents to develop public artworks.
In partnership with Mayor Emanuel's One Summer Chicago, the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services and One Summer Chicago, DCASE is creating a Public Art Youth Corps.
Paid interns will be matched with community organizations to work on public art projects in neighborhoods across the City. Interns participating in the program will also be invited to spend a day at the Chicago Cultural Center to network with other interns and to establish career connections with industry professionals.
The One Summer Chicago program invests in the City's future by hiring young people to work during the summer. Last year, the program provided over 31,000 jobs for youth ages 14-24 at businesses and organizations throughout the City.
Youth gain invaluable professional development experience and the program benefits from additional staff whose energy and perspective are supportive.
Young job seekers ages 14 to 24 are encouraged to apply by May 15 .
