Flores and Moreno announce efforts to get on the ballot for Mayor and Alderman
Manny Flores, Illinois Commerce Commission Chairman and former 1st Ward Alderman, made it official that he is seeking signatures for a Mayoral run though he has not as yet stated that he is a candidate for Chicago's top spot. Proco "Joe" Moreno announced the opening of a campaign office during the 1st Ward Democratic morning meeting at Lazo's Tacos on Western Ave., Sat. Sept. 18.
With several mayoral hopefuls being Latino, an ABC reporter asked Flores about his candidacy in this light. "If I decide to run, as a candidate, I will bring experience and knowledge and feelings I've had thru out the communities (to the campaign). This is not the time for divisiveness, this is a time for inclusion. We need to get more people involved, engaged on an equal footing."
Moreno also talked about how some are trying to divide the ward racially or socio-economically or by age. "On my street, I am lucky enough to live next door to Jewish family with a Puerto Rican family on the other side and across the street from a Mexican family and American artists. That (diversity) is what our Ward is about."
Both Moreno and Flores thanked all those such as Democratic Ward Committeeman Jesse Juarez and all the door-to-door troops for all their past and future help.
