New ABC television antenna installation knocks out other stations

While a huge new television antenna for ABC is being installed on top of Willis Tower Sunday morning starting before 7 a.m., most other station signals are knocked out.

ABC, however, was on the air. Installation is expected to last for an hour.

The new installation is a two part process. First a 4,000 pound adapter is raised to the top of the country's tallest building then the antenna. People must then bolt that to the top of the building before installing the antenna.

According to an ABC engineer, this is the culmination of a multi-year, multi-step journey that will make them the most powerful station in the area.
