BCO gives back to the 14th Chicago Police District Officers
Bucktown Community Organization (BCO) supports the police community with a gift to the 14th District Police Station as officers embark on a health and wellness program.
"Part of BCO's mission is to support the community. We've supported other agencies in our neighborhood like schools and libraries and it is long overdue that we give something back to the police department," said BCO President.
Commander Francis Valadez told Jensen about how the officers just fixed up their gym room and were interest in working on a fitness program. To aid in those efforts they obtained some training videos but needed equipment to show them on.
"I as well as every officer in the 14th District appreciates what the organization is doing. It shows that partnership that we try to strengthen every opportunity that we get," explained the Commander.
"The officers in the 14th District, even on their own have tried to keep an eye on their health Improvement. They have just started a weight loss program that has at least 25 members.
"This TV is definitely going to help. Officers will be able to use the work out videos that we have and hopefully get everyone healthier physically and mentally," said Valadez.
Two tactical officers who are in the program explained how it works. Officer Andy Matos is the officiator, he is recording the weights and keeping them private. The program is to last three months.
Officer Luis Reyes explained, "The winner will be the person who loses the most weight percentage wise." In a two-week period, Reyes has already lost 15 pounds.
His partner, Kelly Vo said, "We can motivate each other to have a healthier life style." So, while donuts are not in their future, any time soon, they seem to be determined to make a difference for their health.
