Handcuffed and duct taped, a 26-year-old woman in Bucktown was the victim of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The accused is the victim's 33-year-old ex-boyfriend Nathan Nissenbaum of the 400 block of W. Wrightwood Ave. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of N. Hoyne Ave. at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 12.

While restrained, the victim was hit, choked and sexually assaulted. When she freed herself and fled, Nissenbaum set towels on fire in the bathroom, causing smoke damage.

Nissenbaum's case went before Judge James Brown on Feb. 13, though he was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, 2233 W. Division St., after an apparent suicide attempt. The Judge set bail at $1 million and the next court date is Mar. 3.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, Nissenbaum has been arrested in previous domestic-related incidents. Since 2012, he was arrested twice for battery and once for criminal damage to property. When the complaining witness declined to appear in court, the cases were dropped.
